Meet Chrissy Norvell, Founder and Owner of Perfekt Pass Trays!
We truly have an exceptional group of people working here at Perfekt Pass Trays and chief among them is our intrepid leader Chrissy Norvell. She is a catering industry veteran with 17+ years experience. From serving hor d’oeuvres on a cruise liner to executing large-scale corporate events to selling unique culinary creations to brides. Here’s your chance to get to know her a little better in a column we call 5 PERFEKT QUESTIONS.
1. What is the most disastrous… *ahem*… I mean “memorable” event of your catering career?
While working for a catering company in Orlando, I found myself unexpectedly working an event all by myself. Since I didn’t attend the initial site visit, I had no idea where I was going and showed up at the wrong house. Embarrassing! Eventually I made it to the correct location, a canoe house at the end of the street. There were more people there than planned for — nearly 200 people crammed into the space. There wasn’t enough electricity so I had to borrow extension cords from neighbors. I was told to put sternos into the small oven to reheat the food but when I shut the door the smoke snuffed them out. I ended up serving lukewarm food… it was disastrous. We were on the water so mosquitos were everywhere! The client kept trying to foist alcoholic beverages on me to ease the insanity. To finish off the night, the company van I drove didn’t have a working overhead light so I loaded all the stuff into pitch black van in the middle of the woods. Good times!
2. What is the most amazing event of your catering career?
I managed an event for Red Bull that actually required me to down a few Red Bulls to keep my energy up. The party started at 10 pm and ended at 4 am. We served sushi on top of real models laying on tables and there were circus performers hanging from the ceiling. I ate so much sushi and drank so much red bull that night that it took a while for me to be able to look at a rainbow roll without going green and i haven’t touched an energy drink since.
3. What is the most exotic food you’ve ever experienced?
I’ve eaten Kangaroo in Australia… it tastes like a cross between venison and buffalo meat.
4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I will have purchased and remodeled another home to the dismay of my family who always gets roped into helping me! My nieces will have grown into amazing little people, and I will be at a point in my life where I’m ready to adopt children of my own. Perfekt Pass trays will have grown by leaps and bounds, and commercial kitchens all across the world will be using — and loving — our products.
5. What is the one thing you want people to know about you the most?
I’m one of the most determined, energetic, positive people you’ll ever meet (or, in this case, read about). Forget what you’ve heard about the glass half empty, even if contains only a single drop of water I consider it full! I’m not afraid to take risks. I was taught to get back up and start again because you’re only a failure if you stay down.
